In the absence of the Surveyor General I am directed to state in reply to your letter of the 19th Instant, that it is not the intention of the Colonial Government in any way to interfere with the free access to the sea at present enjoyed by the owners of Marine Lot No. 66.

If the War Department have no need for the land, which it is proposed to reclaim in front of Marine Lot, it will not be sold elsewhere, but will be retained by the Colony who will allow the owners to continue their present arrangements.

When the sale of the property belonging to this Department on Lot 66, shall hereafter be decided upon, and effected, the purchaser will have to make his own arrangements with the Colonial Authorities, with respect to payment for the plot of land reclaimed by them.
